This picture was taken at the Baltimore Zoo. It has been retouched in PhotoShop, because there was originally chain-link fence in front of the tiger in the picture. It's pretty hard to tell, though, unless you're looking for it. PhotoShop is very good.
The National Zoo tiger enclosure in Washington, DC is sunken below the walkways to ensure a barrier-less photo experience. This tiger offered several good photo opportunities. Unfortunately, I lost many of the files in a hard drive crash a few years ago.
This is the same tiger from the National Zoo. Both of these had to be re-scanned into the computer from printed copies. Unfortunately, I only had a "canvas" version of this picture. The other was scanned from normal photo paper.
This is a tiger from Out of Africa, a unique wildlife park in Camp Verde, AZ. The handlers do a lot of one-on-one work with the tigers, and the enclosures are quite large. The only problem (as you can see here) is the chain-link fencing in some of the photo areas.
All of the cubs in these photos are from Out of Africa. They let them out in an open courtyard to play in front of the guests. I could've reached down and picked them up if I'd have chosen to. Of course, I'd like to visit the park again in the future. Stealing tigers is something they frown upon.
The cubs played together for about twenty minutes while we stood there watching. It was constant, non-stop action the entire time. And then, suddenly, they both laid down at my feet and fell asleep. Once again, they wouldn't let me pick one up.
The cubs were constantly moving and rolling around. A lot of the pictures were blurry and out of focus. Others ended up just being pictures of tiger butts. This was the one picture where I got one of the cubs to look directly at me.
While this was one of the semi-blurry pictures I took, it was simply too funny to not post. You can tell from the railing in the shot that I was no more than an arm's length from the cubs. I couldn't distract the staff enough to reach down and pet one.
There was a lot of greco-roman wrestling going on between the two cubs. It was probably thirty seconds after this picture that both cubs were sound asleep. I wish I could do that.
